Join the Hunt for the Golden Boar and claim its glory at Boar's Hunt 2025, hosted by the Barony of Aquaterra!

Inspired by the mythic Gullinbursti, the golden boar of Norse legend, this weekend camping event will be a celebration of honor, skill, and camaraderie. Watch the forest come alive with the clash of armored combat, the swift precision of archery, and the artistry of historical crafts. Whether you're a warrior, artisan, storyteller, or curious traveler, there's something for everyone – heavy fighting, rapier duels, archery contests, youth activities, classes, and more. Don your garb, gather your companions, and answer the call of Gullinbursti, the Golden Boar!

All classes, largesse, arts, sciences, competitions, trivia, prizes, and other event content should meet the themes of gold, boars, myths/legends, or Norse culture. Norse garb not required.

This will be in an indoor/outdoor setting (weather dependent) just off the back of the main hall.

The Newcomer's Picnic

We love newcomers and showing them SCA hospitality. Meats, cheeses, breads, crackers, and fruit will be provided but we request folks bring a potluck item, hot or cold to share with our new friends! There are stoves, ovens, fridges, and electricity in the main hall if you want to reheat your item or keep it cold. Don't forget to bring a card with the name of your item and allergens it may contain.

Silent Auction

We're having a Silent Auction at Boar's Hunt! Come and see what unique treasures are up for bidding at the auction table. Our Auction goodies will be available at the main hall near Merchants. Don't let the opportunity to bid on the one-of-a-kind items we'll have available. Want to add something to the auction? Bring it with you to the auction table or report to the event steward after Saturday morning court.

Tournament Information

The Hunt for Gullinbursti's Golden Children

Their Excellencies Már Skál Óttarson and Tabitta Elizi Longtail

Gullinbursti's golden children have run away and are hiding in the forest! It is up to you, our populace, to find them and bring them to Saturday evening court so they can be sent back to their home. Each person may only present one golden boar before their Excellencies to receive a gift in thanks.

A&S – Freyja's Favors: Largesse Competition

Submit six related items suitable for largesse. They can be matching, themed, or stylistically connected. Think: six boar-themed tokens, Norse-inspired cups, or gold-accented inkle trim in various patterns. All entries should embrace one or more of the event's themes: gold, boars, myths/legends, or Norse culture.

The winner will receive the honor of selecting one item from the entries as their prize; the rest will be added to Aquaterra's largesse coffers. Submissions will be accepted at the A&S Pavilion for one hour after morning court. Voting is open to the populace and begins once entries close, ending at 3:00 pm for tallying. The winner will be announced at evening court.

What is largesse? Visit the link for more info: https://antir.sca.wiki/index.php?title=Largesse

A&S – Iron Needle Sewing Competition

A&S Champion: HL Sabina di Zorzi

This is a small challenge inspired by Their Excellencies' Scavenger Hunt, the competition is based on Freyr and Gullinbursti, the Golden Boar, though folk are encouraged to make it their own! The goal is to make a rag doll, a boar, or both, using the pattern pieces available on site. Judging categories will be based on the resulting submissions, but likely will be based on skill level. This is a stash busting project, so bring some scrap stash, your sewing kit, a mildly pointy thing to help you turn small pieces rightside out, paper scissors, and fabric scissors. You can also bring any trim, yarn, embroidery floss, etc. that you want to use to give your makes faces, hair, or some extra bling. The pattern pieces will be available if you ask for them at gate Friday or folk can meet up at the A&S Pavilion after morning court Saturday and share scraps and sew together. Pieces are due an hour before evening court and should be labeled with the maker. You can reclaim your pieces immediately after evening court, or leave them to be donated to largesse.

HEAVY – The Hunt for the Golden Boar

MIC: HL Loftr Jolgeirsson

It is time for one of our greatly honored traditions, The Hunt! Sharpen your spears and ready your hounds because the creatures you will face in these woods aren't fluffy bunnies. Be wary of the noble Stag whose great horns can pierce even the strongest of armor, dread the mighty Bear whose great strength will overpower the biggest man, but the one that strikes fear into all brave hunters is Gullinbursti the Golden Boar with its powerful tusks. This legendary beast will not go down easily.

The heavy hunt will take place in the woods as in previous years, however due to site changes, access to the hunting grounds will be different. This will be announced in court and there will be signs posted for fighters.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL WHO WISH TO FIGHT MUST HAVE AN UP-TO-DATE FIGHTER CARD AND IT MUST BE SHOWN TO THE MARSHAELS WHO ARE RUNNING THE FIGHTING, ARMOR INSPECTIONS WILL BE DONE BY THE MARSHELS WHO ARE RUNNING THE FIGHTING ONLY UNLESS THE MIC HAS SAID OTHERWISE.

Rules and Scenarios:

The Hunters: Hunters will have a single life (a standard killing blow will kill you) due to the nature of the hunt and the location arms and legs will not be counted. Hunters will be armed with a spear or another thrust only weapon.

The Dogs: Dogs will have a single life (same rules for Hunters) they will have two daggers and can only point and bark during the fighting.

The Stag: Stags will have three lives which means three standard killing blows must be struck before the Stag will fall (the fighter will call out loud when stuck and will count down till he falls down dead). Stags will use two long swords.

The Bear: Bears will have four lives (same rules apply for all animals when acknowledging blows). Bears will use a two-handed great weapon.

The Golden Boar: The Boars have five lives (once again same rules as above) please note there will be no "boar rage" – once the boar has been slain, it passes on into legend. Boars will use two mass weapons and wear yellow.

When a beast is killed, allow them to get up and retreat to the woods where a marshal will be located for them to rez, when hunters and dogs are killed, they will return to the edge of the woods to rez.

4:00pm in the Main Hall

with HL Sabina di Zorzi

Have you been interested in volunteering as an officer of the barony but haven't quite been sure what that might entail? I will be holding a class in the Big Kitchen at 4pm at Boars Hunt to go over the basics of being an officer in Aquaterra, including the organization structure, the expectations of officers, available resources, some of the rules involved, etc. and hope to have other current and previous officers join us to join the conversation and help answer questions about the specific different offices. If you've been curious but haven't known where to start, this should be a good opportunity, and we hope you'll join us!
